live handlettering at bijou.

on friday, day one of the bijou market, i spent the day taking custom handlettering orders for customers while they shopped.

most everyone i met felt a sink in their heart and said, "oh the pressure! i need that perfect quote"
some, though, let that perfect quote fall right off their tongue and onto my page.

how fun it was to create something special for a few new friends!

bijou market was good to me!

maypole started at the prompting of the bijou girls. in my head, i was going to skip out this season.... chalk it up to premature design skills, a lack of product, and all around ill-preparedness. all of it, though, was just a good excuse for plain ol' fear to launch. nothing like a quick deadline, though, to light a fire under me and get things cranking into motion!

bijou was so good to me, though.  i wanted to cry happy tears when my friends came out in support of me, and i wanted to do a toe touch and throw my arms around every stranger i saw with my goods in their basket.

thank you, friends! so very much!

it's prep week!

 it's almost here, y'all!
by week's end, bijou madness will be upon us. you'll be shopping, i'll be lettering... and shopping, quite truthfully.

the toughest part is over - the editing-in-photoshop part - and i'm back to creating. banner making, packaging, ribboning, prettying, and so forth. this is the fun part!

i'm excited for the weekend to come {have i mentioned it's my birthday?} and to create something for everyone. i'll be taking custom hand lettering orders from friday from open till about 5. bring me your favorite quote, music lyrics, lines from a movie or book... anything! i'll put pen to paper and bring it to life for YOU.

if i were submitting a request {you own work always comes last, right?}, i'd choose
"and the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." - anaias nin

in addition to the custom orders, i'll have a booth with a handful of prints i've created in the last few months. nine of them to be exact. all very different. some about love, some about happiness, some very religious, etc. i hope the lines that spoke to me may speak to you.

and entirely unrelated to handwriting... but very much a necessity in my life: felt balls.
i bought myself enough to turn into a holiday garland and some to share with you!

see you friday!

see you at bij!

after years of loyal fan-dom of the clever crafters at bijou market, i'm jumping in and joining the ranks!

i'll have handlettered goods - both BIG and small - as well as a few other paper goods that struck a creative chord at 1 a.m.

most exciting, though - i'll be stationed at the market on friday from opening until about 5 p.m. to handletter quotes, names, monograms, lyrics.... whatever your heart desires... while you shop! a quick little personalized doodle just for YOU.

i'll be sure to make it extra special, with extra wisdom and experience since i'll be another year older on november 16.  i'm spending my 31st birthday at bijou market with you!

setting up shop.

for the first three days of my college career, i was an art major. all i ever wanted was to design fonts. the rest of those art skills - important things like drawing, shade, proportion, yada - kept me from marching down that path. from way back to the time i was a little aubry, doodling on the back of my church programs to the margins of my college composition books, a well-weaved ribbon of putting words on paper has decorated itself in and out and all around my life.

and so, maypole.
